Description
The Western Oregon Stream Restoration Program (WOSRP) provided direct technical support to Watershed Councils and private landowners in western Oregon to implement Oregon Plan measures directing the restoration and enhancement of Oregons salmonid habitats. This included projects to increase instream habitat complexity by adding large wood or boulders, enhancing riparian areas by protection or planting, and correcting fish passage problems. The program also assists in monitoring fish populations, assessing habitat conditions, and raising public awareness of habitat restoration projects.
Project Benefit
The program biologists provide technical assistance to landowners and watershed councils to coordinate restoration activities and assist with grant applications, project design, permit applications, and monitoring of the projects. Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery money provides staff time to work on preliminary site assessment, assist with watershed assessments, and update the public on habitat restoration projects conducted in their area.

Description and scope of the plan developed/implemented | |
The Oregon plan for Salmon and Watersheds is an adaptive strategy designed to help restore healthy watersheds to improve water quality and habitat for native fish and wildlife throughout the state. The Oregon plan is based on four elements: effective implementation of natural resources regulatory programs, voluntary conservation efforts, good science to inform decision-making, and monitoring/reporting of results. These four elements are consistent with NOAA’s Strategic Plan Ecosystem Mission goal to protect, restore, and manage the use of coastal and ocean resources through an ecosystem approach to management. |
