Description

Reservation of water applications for six watersheds were prepared and successfully filed with DNR (accepted as complete and given a priority date by DNR). Reservation of water applications were initiated for four other watersheds (all of these reservations were completed and filed during a subsequent AKSSF project). Stream gaging efforts aimed at collecting the hydrologic data needed to prepare reservation of water applications continued in four other watersheds. Cooperative stream gaging projects with three watershed councils continued.

Project Benefit

The rivers and lakes of Southeast Alaska support and provide access to some of North Americas most viable and productive salmon fisheries. Salmon production in these waterbodies is dependent on sufficient quantities of high quality water. This project will benefit salmon resources and users by using state and federal laws to protect sufficient quantities of water needed to sustain salmon production in priority waterbodies.
