Volunteer Data Management

This project financed the salaries of three distinct temporary employees who were tasked with eliminating the existing backlog of volunteer generated water quality data which had already been submitted to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and retrieving data collected but not yet submitted. The data were placed in the DEQs Laboratory Analytical Storage and Retrieval Database (LASAR) more than doubling the amount of volunteer generated data housed within the database. The temporary employees were tasked with identifying, compiling, assigning data quality to, re-formatting and submitting for upload 232 unique data sets to DEQs LASAR. All of the submitted information is currently readily accessible through DEQs LASAR web application.

This project will make large quantities of water quality data collected by watershed councils as part of the ODEQ Volunteer Monitoring Program available in a single database for use in regional assessments of salmon habitat, including recovery planning and TMDL development and effectiveness monitoring
