Description
This project will provide funding for the operation and maintenance associated with the Bonaparte Acclimation Pond located within the Okanogan subbasin. The acclimation pond will be used to improve distribution and abundance of naturally spawning populations of summer Chinook salmon in the subbasin. This project will utilize the Bonaparte Acclimation Ponds. This pond has successfully reared spring Chinook salmon two years and reared summer Chinook salmon in 2003. During 2003, several issues limited survival at the pond. However, these issues originated from thermal shock due to warm water from the originating faciltity (East bank fish hatchery) to the receiving water at Bonaparte Pond. Measures are in place to prevent this issue from reoccurring.
Project Benefit
Increase steelhead and Chinook juvenile production and subsequent increases in numbers of sub-yearling out-migration.
