Description

Restore degraded riparian areas and preserve properly functioning zones along the main stem of the Chehalis River, specifically in pockets along approximately 4 miles of shoreline located within the Chehalis Reservation. Remove non-native vegetation, plant native species to prevent erosion and provide shade. Decommission jeep trails to prevent silty runoff, remove garbage and derelict vehicles from riparian areas to protect water quality. The Chehalis River is utilized by Wahington Coastal Coho, Washington Coastal Chum, Washington Coastal Chinook, Stealhead, Cuthroat trout and Bull trout.

Project Benefit

Improve water quality by reducing siltation, removing potential pollutants and providing shade (over time) to cool water temperatures. Improve slamon habitat via enhanced streamside vegetation and eventual addition of large woody debris as trees grow and fall into the river.
