Description

The Skokomish River Mile 5 Habitat Restoration Project improved floodplain connectivity by installing 1 apex and 7 deflector engineered log jams; and creating 2,500 feet of side channel habitat with channel roughening logs between river miles 4.1 and 5.25. Chinook, Steelhead, Chum, Coho, Cutthroat and Bull Trout frequent this location and benefit from increased pool habitat with wood cover, and increased side channel rearing habitat. During flood events the side channel provide fish quiescent migration path between the Skokomish River, flooded wetlands and Purdy Creek to increase fish survival.

Project Benefit

Boost recovery salmonids supported by the Skokomish River into perpetuity. Improve instream habitat conditions and flood plain connection along River Mile 5 of the Skokomish River by installing large woody debris and creating side channel to enhance fish rearing, spawning and migration habitats.
