The purpose of the project is to support the capacity of the Tribe to participate in ongoing and diverse salmon recovery processes. For the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, this includes multiple forums including (in decreasing importance): 1) identification, development, and implementation of watershed restoration projects, 2) monitoring of salmon population and watershed health, 3) participation in salmon recovery processes (Puget Sound Partnership, North Olympic Lead Entity for Salmon Recovery, ESA processes), and 4) Review of land use permits (ACOE, County Shorelines, Forest Practices). These activities will result in specific outcomes that include restoration designs, restoration implementation, assessments of salmon and watershed health, and the prevention of deleterious land use impacts on existing populations.
