Description

The Swinomish Tribe is evaluating the potential of adding a new salmon hatchery in Skagit Bay or re-instating a former coho hatchery in the Swinomish Channel to provide additional harvest opportunity and the exercise of treaty rights. The Tribe will hire a consultant to evaluate potential site locations, infrastructure and possible program sizes, and in doing so, will assess potential risk to ESA-listed Chinook, steelhead, and bull trout.

Project Benefit

This project will ensure that, should a hatchery be implemented, it will be located and designed in such a way as to minimize adverse effects to ESA-listed Chinook, steelhead, and bull trout.
