Description

This implementation project will construct the CDFW-approved 100% engineered designs for improving off-channel habitat in Lindsay Creek and the oxbow. Specifically, the project will reconfigure the geometry of an existing partially abandoned oxbow along the mainstem channel to allow for more frequent and longer duration flooding during high to moderate flow events. The new geometry will ensure fish passage in and out of the oxbow. This project will also significantly increase the area inundated during lower flooding events. Large woody material (LWM) will be added throughout the project footprint to enhance refugia habitat.

Project Benefit

The expected benefits from this project include improved off-channel habitat conditions for salmonids in Lindsay Creek. Specifically, this project will allow for more frequent and longer duration of high flow connectivity between a mostly abandoned oxbow channel and the main stem of Lindsay Creek, thereby providing velocity refuge, cover, and feeding opportunities for juveniles during high flow events outside the incised main channel. The project will create 0.73 acres of off-channel habitat.
