Description
This project was the construction of 61 Large Wood (LW) structures with a total of 162 pieces of LW, including 75 key pieces along 2.0 miles of Upper Sproul creek. The purpose of the Project was to improve the quality and quantity of habitat available to salmonids in Sproul Creek. The Project accomplished this by increasing the frequency of floodplain and side channel inundation, increasing pool and flatwater shelter, increasing pool and flatwater depths, providing velocity refugia, sorting substrate, and aggrading the channel. Areas disturbed by the project were mulched and replanted with conifer tree seedlings.
Project Benefit
This project will benefit salmonids by increasing the availability of velocity refugia, increasing instream and off channel shelter, and by improving spawning substrate availability.
