Description

One undersized culvert and a nearby abandoned culvert were removed and replaced with a 30-foot span pre-fabricated bridge with a natural channel

bottom. The channel bed through the project reach was designed following the CDFW stream simulation approach. Five channel spanning logs were placed downstream of the bridge as grade control structures to prevent incision and restore the incision caused by the undersized culvert. In addition, seven root wads were placed along the right bank of the stream as habitat and erosion control structures. The site was re-vegetated with native plants including: herbaceous plants salvaged from the project area, 100 willow cuttings, and 36 trees.

Project Benefit

The objective of the Project is to remove a complete barrier for juvenile Coho Salmon that is currently limiting access to approximately one

mile of non-natal rearing habitat in the Morrison Creek sub-basin. The current culvert will be replaced with a 30-foot bridge. Grade controls will be installed to prevent incision upstream of the crossing and restore the incision caused by the undersized culvert being replaced. Replacement will allow salmonid unimpeded access to 0.6 miles of good quality rearing habitat.
