Description
The Scott and Shasta Rivers are major tributaries to the Klamath River and both flow through Siskiyou County, California. Both watersheds provide essential spawning and rearing habitat for the federally and state threatened Coho Salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch). Monitoring the timing, abundance and distribution of adult Coho Salmon in these areas is critical to help develop a better understanding of how these fish are being impacted by natural and anthropogenic impacts over time.
Project Benefit
Adult abundance and trend information is critical monitoring information identified in both the Federal and State Coho Salmon recovery plans that are required for listing status updates and tracking the effectiveness of restoration actions. Without this basic population information delisting criteria could not be met.
