Description    


This project was the continuation of a long-term monitoring program to assess status and trends of the Central California Coast Coho Salmon, California Coastal Chinook Salmon, and Northern California steelhead in coastal Mendocino County watersheds, following methods from the California Coastal Monitoring Plan- CMP (Adams et al 2011). Monitoring included (1) regional spawning surveys and (2) life cycle monitoring in coastal Mendocino County (Figure 1). Spawning ground surveys occurred from November through May, following a spatially balanced probabilistic design, to estimate redd and adult abundance at regional, diversity strata, and independent population levels.

Project Benefit    


Federal and state listings of these salmonids require monitoring to provide measures of recovery. Information provided by this monitoring effort is critical for maintaining continuity of long-term datasets to inform recovery efforts.
