Description    


During the 2021-22 monitoring season, a DIDSON camera was placed at RM 0.9 on the Big Sur River from 11/19/2020 through 06/02/2021 to determine adult steelhead migration timing and abundance. In addition to the DIDSON camera survey, redd surveys were conducted in the lower 8-mile section of the Big Sur River from 11/19/2021 through 06/02/2022 to determine adult steelhead spawn timing and spatial distribution in the lower eight miles of the main stem Big Sur River.

Project Benefit    


Steelhead populations along the Big Sur Coast, Carmel Watershed and Interior Coast range are part of the federally threatened South-Central California Distinct Population Segment. National Marine Fisheries Service states that obtaining adult steelhead population data for these systems is a crucial component of adopting appropriate management strategies (NMFS 2013).
