Description

This project will help address a newly identified fish passage barrier that is located in habitat that is occupied by ESA-listed Lake Ozette sockeye. The fish passage barrier stream crossing structure is located in the Umbrella sub-basin of the Ozette Watershed on tribal industrial timberlands and is adjacent to the Makah Tribe’s Lake Ozette Sockeye Umbrella Creek Hatchery. The current structure is an undersized culvert, and the anticipated replacement structure will be a bridge. The upstream available habitat is estimated to be 2.5 miles. This project will assist in the construction costs of the project. It is anticipated that these funds will not be enough to cover the entire project, and will be partnered with the landowner’s contributions. Total project preliminary estimates for construction is approximately $300,000.

Project Benefit

The expected benefits of this project is to improve access to salmon habitat for spawning and rearing
