Description

The purpose of this project was to provide ODFW staff and materials to inspect and maintain the proper function of previously installed fish screens or passage within the Mid-Columbia ESU. ODFW staff continued throughout the reporting period to inspect and maintain screens and passage that had previously been installed. Typical maintenance activities include cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments of screen material or passage structures; removal of accumulated sediment and debris or controlling vegetation around the screen or passage device; repair and replacement of power systems or worn screening components. Additional maintenance activities include ensuring safe landing areas at bypass outfall, minimizing false attractions, and conducting fish salvage as needed (e.g. after a high flow event) to return fish to waterways. The number of screens and passage sites maintained as a result of inspection is listed in C.1.d.2 and C.2.b.4.

Project Benefit

The goal of this work was to protect fish by keeping them in streams and expand or improve their access into historic habitat.
