Description

The purpose of this project was to understand the status and trends of salmonid populations within the Coastal Species Management Unit (SMU). This was achieved by collecting adults and juveniles with various types of traps within specific tributaries. Coho Salmon were the primary targets for these surveys, but information for Chinook Salmon , steelhead, and cutthroat trout was also collected. Data and information from this monitoring effort was used in annual reports, management and restoration decisions, publications, and for other purposes.

PCSRF FFY 2019 funds were expended on project costs incurred during the PCSRF FFY 2019 contract award period and PCSRF FFY 2020 funds were used to complete the project.

Project Benefit

This project functioned to implement ODFW’s Oregon Plan Monitoring Program by providing data on the status and trends in anadromous fish populations and their habitats. Information and analysis provided by the monitoring program were essential to the management and recovery of salmonid populations. The Oregon Plan Monitoring Program continued a long term commitment to status and trend monitoring of adult and juvenile fish abundance and distribution and stream habitat and riparian conditions. The monitoring data provided information about abundance, productivity, survival, distribution, diversity, and viability of salmon and steelhead in support of conservation and recovery planning and implementation.
