Description

This project will implement instream restoration designs for 1.1 miles of Tick Creek 1.2 miles of West Fork Canyon Creek and replace a failing culvert with a railcar bridge. The restoration work will include LWD placement that will increase stream complexity creating rearing and holding habitat for juvenile salmonids and spawning habitat for adults and reconnect the creek to its floodplain. Replacing the failing culvert will improve upstream and downstream passage opening up additional habitat. This project will also address invasive species by removing them and planting native riparian species on approximately 3.2 acres of riparian area.

Project Benefit

The WF Canyon Creek restoration project will improve habitat conditions for OC Coho by placing LWD and boulders in WF Canyon Creek and Tick Creek. These structures will create a more complex stream system by reconnecting the creek with its floodplain, improve water quality, create more spawning habitat for adult Coho and Winter Steelhead and create refuge habitat for juvenile fish during high winter flows and high summer temperatures.
