Big River Salmonid Rearing Habitat and Large Wood Enhancement Project Designs.

Due to the AB1757 and associated landowner carbon offset sales and its potential implications for The Conservation Fund has decided to forego any CA state grant funding agreements or reimbursements until the issue has been further clarified. The Grantee TU has made an effort to find a solution to move forward. They will continue with the design project and the landowner will pay for the costs. CDFW engineering and fisheries staff will stay involved.

The project goal is to restore salmonid habitat complexity in a three-mile reach of the Big River by installing moderate to large-scale ELJ structures. These structures will be used to create habitat diversity and flow complexity for Coho, steelhead, and Chinook Salmon to improve both summer and winter rearing conditions. It is expected that the habitat improvements will also benefit lamprey, and other native aquatic species.
