Description

From 07/01/20 to 05/31/22, MBSTP operated the project outlined in the Q1930407 contract. This project was operated in close cooperation with CDFW and NMFS FED. MBSTP operated of the KFH and engaged in the spawning, rearing, and release of coho salmon in Scott Creek and other coastal watersheds in Santa Cruz and San Mateo Counties. The NMFS FED operated the Lifecycle Monitoring Station (weir and fish trap) on Scott Creek, which sourced a few natural-origin brood fish for the project. However, production was primarily sourced from captive brood fish selected by NMFS FED from segregated family groups according to the genetic spawning matrix guidance. Out planting and release of hatchery-reared coho salmon of all life stages was done in accordance with applicable laws and permits, and closely following the advice of the Captive Broodstock Program technical advisory committee.

All FY15 were spent within the award period even though the project closed outside the award window.

Project Benefit

Support the viability of coho salmon populations south of San Francisco Bay through by operating a conservation hatchery program using captive broodstock to produce up to 40,000 coho smolts to be released in streams in the region.
