Description

The Mattole Salmon Group successfully installed 148 pieces of large wood at 23 instream features locations throughout a 0.75 mile reach in McGinnis Creek. Each location is considered a structure in regards to metrics on this project. No dewatering of the channel was required. Fish relocation occurred in June and July of 2020 and August of 2021 using a combination of CDFW and MSG staff. A total of 667 steelhead were successfully relocated. All FY14 and FY16 PCSRF funds were spent within the award period (even though the project ended outside the FY14/FY16 award periods).

Project Benefit

This project will increase pool frequency, pool depth, channel complexity, cover, and floodplain connectivity through the placement of at least 100 trees in 0.75 miles of a Mattole River tributary in order to enhance spawning and rearing habitat in a stream reach with potential for steelhead, and coho and Chinook salmon.
