Evergreen Bulkhead

This project will produce final designs and restore a total of 500-feet of nearshore habitat located at Bushoowah-Ahlee Point along Eld Inlet and Snyder Cove, restoring natural nearshore processes such as sediment transport/accretion and improving available habitat for juvenile salmonids such as Puget Sound Chinook and coho salmon. This work includes the removal of a 220 concrete bulkhead as well as a concrete pad, stairway, and the planting of 0.8 acres of riparian habitat behind the structure. The section of beach is owned by the Evergreen State College and offers public access, making this a high visibility project with opportunities for continued monitoring as part of the Colleges environmental program. This project would remove the final piece in what is the longest un-armored section of shoreline on Eld Inlet, making the benefit to species greater.

This project will remove a 220-foot-long by 4-foot-tall concrete bulkhead allowing natural shoreline process and function along 500-feet of nearshore habitat. A total of 0.8-acres of upland riparian habitat will be planted with native trees and shrubs. to improve marine sediment quality and improve pacific herring production for Chinook Salmon and Orca.
