Description

Edwards Excavation and Restoration fell the trees for the project. The California Conservation Corps (CCC) used hand operated grip hoists to build 24 large wood features within 0.7 miles of Little Sproul Creek. The wood structures consisted of 54 logs, 49 of which are key pieces and 2 of which include root wads. No structures were anchored, all logs were at least 1.5 times longer than bankfull width. Wailaki Nonprofit oversaw the planting of 200 redwood seedling within the project area. The CCC assisted with the tree planting. The project was implemented as outlined in the FRGP funded agreement, Little Sproul Habitat Enhancement Project, during construction some project feature designs were modified with approval from the CDFW Grant Manager. Post-project implementation metrics were gathered by ERWIG and entered into Webgrants.

Project Benefit

The objective of this project is to build 24 LWD structures along 0.7 miles of Little Sproul Creek. The structures will contain 49 pieces of LWD, 45 of which will be key pieces. These structures will provide shelter, velocity refugia and will increase pool quality. This will be to the benefit to coho, Chinook and steelhead. Additionally, 200 redwood seedlings will be planted to increase canopy density and to improve the stream valley microclimate.
