Description

This project completed final engineered designs for three fish passage culvert barrier sites in the Wisen Creek Watershed. To complete the final designs the project team completed site surveys, cultural resources compliance, preliminary designs, geotech investigation, final design deliverables, and secured permits. The project was completed in collaboration with Clallam County Public Works staff, with support from Quileute Tribe staff and WDFW staff. The project secured a six month extension (related to geotech analysis delays) to complete the project.

Project Benefit

The goal of this project is to produce final, construction-ready designs for all three road crossing fish barriers to increase the quantity and quality of accessible spawning and rearing habitat for coho, steelhead, and trout species. The designs will be engineered to accommodate increased peak flows anticipated from climate change and allow for natural sediment, wood, and nutrient transport. Creating these construction-ready designs and contract packages will accelerate their replacement when funding becomes available.
