Description

The Columbia Conservation District used this grant, leveraged with Bonneville Power Administration funding, to construct the planned habitat restoration actions (Conceptual Restoration Plan Reach 26, Anchor QEA October 2011). Project Area 26 is located between River Miles 25.8-26.9 in the Tucannon River watershed in Columbia County, WA. The project covered a .9 mile segment of Project Area 26. Restoration actions included construction of large wood structures instream to enhance habitat complexity and diversity, and improve floodplain connectivity. These actions addressed identified limiting factors in the Snake River Salmon Recovery Plan (2011) and provided multiple life cycle benefits for Endangered Species Act listed Spring Chinook, Snake River steelhead, and bull trout. The goals were to improve floodplain connectivity and channel complexity and diversity to improve quantity and quality of summer and winter rearing habitat for Chinook and steelhead, reduce redd scour, and reduce pre-smolt emigration from the project reach.

Project Benefit

The goals were to improve floodplain connectivity and channel complexity and diversity to improve quantity and quality of summer and winter rearing habitat for spring Chinook and summer steelhead, reduce redd scour and reduce pre-smolt emigration from the project reach. This was achieved by adding LWD structures in the channel.
