Description
The Pacific Conservation District used this grant to complete this restoration project on Johnson Creek, a tributary to the Naselle River in Pacific County. This project addressed fish passage at two locations in the Johnson Creek watershed. At the first project site, Pacific CD removed a metal walk bridge near the outlet of the main Wirkkala Pond that created a 4-foot drop into a deeply incised channel of Johnson Creek. After the metal structure was removed, Pacific CD reconstructed 350 feet of pool-riffle habitat using lock and rock weirs. At the second project site, Pacific CD removed an old wooded spillway and reconstructed 160 feet of pool-riffle habitat using rock weirs. This project benefits chum, coho, sea-rum cutthroat, and steelhead.
Project Benefit
The goal of the project is to connect isolated habitat to increase the range and distribution of salmon.
The objective of the project is to increase access to areas blocked by human-caused impediments.
