Description

The Mason Conservation District will implement this instream habitat restoration project on the Mainstem Skokomish River between river miles 4.1 and 5.25. This project will improve instream habitat throughout the 0.75 mile long reach by installing LWD to facilitate sediment storage, sediment processing, normative channel patterns, and stable vegetated islands (where appropriate). Side channels will be excavated to provide off channel refugia.
This project will support recovery of ESA listed Chinook Salmon as it addresses highest priority issues by implementing the highest priority actions related to recovery of Skokomish Chinook Salmon according to the Guidance for Prioritizing Salmonid Stocks, Issues, and Actions for the Hood Canal Coordinating Council.
Original proejct scope was reduced in 2022 due to the desgin not meeting FEMA no-rise requirements. 16-1483 is now considered Phase 1, a reduced footpring of the original project scope that was developed for river mile 4.1 and 6.1.

Project Benefit

Boost recovery salmonids supported by the Skokomish River into perpetuity. Improve instream habitat conditions and flood plain connection along River Mile 5 of the Skokomish River by installing large woody debris and creating side channel to enhance fish rearing, spawning and migration habitats
