Description

This project replacd two barrier culverts (4’ and 3.5’ dia) with a prefabricated, modular, concrete bridge to eliminate hydraulic drops associated with both culverts. The project site is on Whitney Creek, a tributary to the Wolf Fork, which is a North Fork Touchet River tributary. Both pipes at the site were installed as a result of flooding in the late 1990s under a county-wide emergency proclamation. No HPA was required then. The low flow pipe had a 1.7 foot inlet drop (due to debris accumulation), a 0.8 foot outlet drop, and a slope of 6.5%. The high flow pipe had an outlet drop of 1.5 feet and a slope of 7.3%. Both pipes were replaced with a 25 foot long and 15 foot wide bridge, opening up about 2.22 miles of stream for steelhead, rainbow and potentially bull trout (presumed present).

Project Benefit

The goal of the project is to connect isolated habitat to increase the range and distribution of salmon.

The objective of the project is to increase access to areas blocked by human-caused impediments.
