Description

The project objectives are to re-establish complex in-channel and off-channel habitat through the installation of:

- Ten engineered log jams and six large wood structures to provide extensive complex shelter.

- One deflection jam and one bar-apex jam to create and maintain a side channel around a mid-channel gravel bar and improve salmonid access to

the floodplain.

- Two flooded wetlands with seasonal ponds to provide high flow refugia, winter rearing habitat, and rich feeding areas.

Project Benefit

The project will provide critical missing habitat elements that are needed to maximize juvenile salmonid survival and growth in the resource-rich middle estuary zone. Over 34,000 square feet of in-channel complex log features, spatially distributed along the length of the ½ mile-long middle estuary, will be built. Two floodplain wetland inlets and three seasonally-flooded shallow ponds will be graded and revegetated to provide over 2+ acres of off-channel rearing habitat.
