Description
The objective of this project is to enhance connectivity to the floodplain by creating off-channel pond(s)/channel(s) which enhance winter high-flow refugia and rearing habitat for coho salmon in the lower Little River estuary. This project will remove an existing tide gate, construct off-channel ponds, install wood cover structures along the channel, and restore of riparian habitat.
Project Benefit
The expected benefits include improving habitat for coho salmon in Little River by creating off-channel ponds and channels that restore estuarine and floodplain function and provide significant habitat extent that is currently unavailable to rearing coho salmon. In addition, benefits include restoring year-round salmonid habitat, not necessarily exclusive to coho salmon, where salmonids were historically excluded due to development and floodplain disconnection.
