Description

This project removed the most downstream steelhead migration barrier in Cachagua Creek (a concrete automobile ford) and replaced it with a vented ford to allow full fish passage while insuring continued access to the Valley Creek Mobile Home Park. The vented ford installed consisted of 3 prefabricated concrete box culverts, each having a span of 24 feet long

by 12 feet high and provide a 20-foot roadway. The box culvert inverts were embedded below the channel grade and backfilled with native stream bed material to maintain a natural channel bottom that will provide passage opportunities similar to adjoining reaches of the channel. The stream was dry during construction, so no surface flow de-watering and no fish relocation was necessary. Final project resulted in 2.1 miles of stream made accessible to salmonid.

Overall stream length treated: 150 ft

Length of Aquatic habitat disturbed: 150 ft

Area of instream features installed within bankfull channel (square feet): 9,375 = 0.21 ac

Project Benefit

The removal of the concrete crossing and construction of a vented ford will provide fish passage salmonids.
