Description

The objective of this project is to construct 30 large wood (LW) features along 0.8 miles of Middle Fork Cottaneva Creek. These features will contain 108 pieces of LW, including 63 key pieces and 8 logs with root wads attached. The completion of this project will result in the project reach consisting of 7.3 key pieces per 100 meters, which meets the Coastal Multispecies Recovery Plan target value of good. The structures will increase habitat and ecological complexity as well as improve geomorphic function in Middle Fork Cottaneva Creek. The structures are designed to provide winter and summer rearing habitat to salmonids throughout the project reach. Additionally, seedlings and native plants will be planted in the riparian zone along the project reach.

Project Benefit

Adding large wood (LW) to this project will increase habitat complexity, provide velocity refugia, increase shelter, increase depth of pool and flatwater habitat units , sort spawning substrate, and capture sediment.
