Description

The weir repairs and installation took place during September 2023. Daily weir and trap monitoring began on October 1, 2023, and weekly spawner surveys were conducted through December 2023. Brood year (BY) 2023 otolith samples were processed by the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) otolith lab in March/April 2024.

Project Benefit

The data collected through this project enables the Makah Tribe to estimate: the relative contribution of hatchery and natural-origin sockeye (HOR and NOR); the proportions of hatchery origin/natural spawners (pHOS) and natural origin sockeye retained for Brood stock (pNOB); the proportionate natural influence (PNI) of the Umbrella Creek spawners; and HOR straying to the Lake Ozette spawning beaches.
