Skokomish Enetai Creek Hatchery - Modernize, Retrofit, and Upgrade Incubation Facility

This project intended to modernize, retrofit, and upgrade the incubation facility to provide sufficient infrastructure, and incubation space, and increase the number of incubators. Due to structural issues and concerns with the existing incubation facility, this project utilized Best Hatchery Management Practices Criteria and Technological Advances by implementing Redd Zone’s modular hatchery design concept.

The project improved overall efficiency and ergonomics and maximized benefits from hatchery production (brood stock to adult return). This project addressed several causative problems and factors, including: inadequate incubation conditions, low green egg to eyed survival rates due to high loading densities, and repeated incidence of environmental gill disease, which in some cases has led to bacterial gill disease requiring treatment which indicates that something is fundamentally wrong with the hatchery operation or physical set-up of the hatchery.
