Cataloging Prince of Wales Anadromous Water Bodies

This project will survey and document potential anadromous water bodies on Prince of Wales Island and submit nominations to the Catalog of Waters Important for Spawning, Rearing or Migration of Anadromous Fishes and its companion Atlas (AWC). Inclusion in the AWC provides statutory protection for each listed water body.

This project will add water bodies to the AWC, providing statutory protection to important salmon streams. The AWC is the State of Alaska’s tool to identify, protect, and manage salmon and steelhead spawning, incubation, rearing, overwintering, and migration habitats. This tool is used during fish habitat permitting to prevent, minimize, and mitigate human-induced perturbations.
