Description

Using 100 pieces of LWD, 25 features were constructed along a 1.13 mile reach of Anderson Creek. Twenty-one of the features were constructed using heavy equipment. Four features were constructed by directly felling timber into the channel using a chainsaw. Three of the four felled features were subsequently rearranged by CCC crews using chainsaws and grip hoists. All disturbed surfaces on the streambanks and associated floodplain were mulched using local vegetation in order to maximize erosion control and to limit contamination from non-native vegetation or seed sources. In addition to mulching the disturbed areas, the CCC and ERWIG also planted a total of 525 coastal redwood seedlings (Sequoia sempervirens), 15 sword fern (Polystichum minimum), 21 evergreen huckleberry (Vaccinium ovatum), 20 thimbleberry (Rubus parviflorus), 17 red elderberry (Sambucus racemosa), and 23 cascara buckthorn (Frangula purshiana); totaling in 621 plants.

Project Benefit

Placement of large woody debris structures will improve spawning habitat and cover.
