Description

Pacific Watershed Associates, Inc. identified a total of 77 current and future road related sediment delivery features with the potential to deliver over 12,600 yd3 of sediment to streams in the South Fork Battle Creek watershed (Tables 1 and 2, Map 2). Roads assessed in the project area are native surfaced and rocked for forest management (primarily for past timberland management and log truck use). 12 miles of road were assessed.

Project Benefit

Prioritize future erosion/sediment control projects to implement. Reducing sediment will increase water quality and spawning opportunities for Chinook and Steelhead.

Description and scope of the plan developed
This proposed project will address sediment loading concerns as identified in 2014 federal recovery Action BAC-1.6 by conducting an aerial photograph and on-the-ground assessment of roads. These assessments are required to produce a detailed, prioritized erosion prevention and erosion control plan that will protect and improve habitat for salmonids by preventing controllable erosion and sedimentation.
