Description

During the planning process for this project it was decided that the Yurok Tribal Fisheries Program would conduct a survey of catch and release fishing effort at the Blue Creek Thermal Refuge and California Department of Fish and Wildlife would conduct an angling mortality study.

Project Benefit

Quantification of the short-term mortality rate associated with catching fish congregated in the thermal refuge at Blue Creek and releasing these fish into the mainstem Klamath River. This information will be used to help guide management decisions regarding fishing in this area in future years. Anadromous Salmonids to Benefit from Project & Status: Fall-Run Klamath River Chinook Salmon (Oncorynchus tshawytscha) - Key species for Yurok Tribal federally reserved fishing rights. Klamath Mountains Province Steelhead Trout (O. mykiss) - Key species for Yurok Tribal federally reserved fishing rights. Summer Steelhead. Spring-Run Chinook Salmon (Oncorynchus tshawytscha) - Key species for Yurok Tribal federally reserved fishing rights.
