Description

This project was initiated in summer of 2015 and helped support restoration implementation within Hunter Creek, a high priority coastal tributary of the Lower Klamath River. For this project, our restoration consultant provided restoration implementation support for activities conducted in Hunter Creek during July-August 2015. Restoration efforts in Hunter Creek were focused on increasing salmonid habitat complexity and resiliency through installation of constructed wood jams and planting native vegetation in riparian habitats.

Project Benefit

Project objectives include: 1) increasing juvenile salmonid winter rearing capacity (e.g. increase quantity and quality of slow velocity habitats available; increase the number, volume, and complexity of pools); 2) improving conditions for spawning adults (e.g. create more hiding places during both high and low flow events; promote formation of well sorted spawning beds); and 3) providing restoration-based employment opportunities for Tribal members. Funding will be used to assist with ongoing restoration efforts that are being implemented during 2015 in Hunter Creek.
