Description

This project provided updated information about the harvests of salmon by the community of Tyonek in 2015 and 2016 through household surveys and participant observation. In addition to estimating total harvests in the Tyonek subsistence fishery, the data led to recommendations to improve harvest estimating strategies.

Project Benefit

This project will benefit management of the Tyonek Subdistrict Chinook salmon subsistence fishery by monitoring the harvest for two years and developing a revised harvest monitoring program to more accurately monitor the harvest in the future. The revised methodology could be applied to other fisheries across Alaska where subsistence harvest monitoring is important for understanding the mortality of Chinook salmon.
