Description

Continued with the fourth data year of an ongoing multi-phase study to assess the distribution, density, age structures and habitat use of juvenile steelhead in Uvas Creek below Uvas Dam during modified stream flow release strategies, etc.

Project Benefit

Long term goals of the project are to report on seasonal and longitudinal changes in water temperature, stream flow volume, and turbidity during the increased flow release strategies to see how these relate to and affect juvenile steelhead distribution, habitat selection, and growth. The data gathered is being used by a technical advisory committee to develop a long-term stream flow release strategy for Uvas Dam that is intended to improve populations of the South-Central California Coast (S-CCC) DPS of steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in the Pajaro River watershed, which are listed as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act, while not significantly impacting availability of municipal water supplies.
