Description
This project prepared three reservations of water for important salmon producing water bodies in Southeast Alaska. For each stream, water flow was proactively protected for use by salmon; as the water reservations protect rather than restore water flow, there is no change in flow for these systems.
Project Benefit
The rivers and lakes of SEAK support some of North America’s most viable and productive salmon fisheries. Salmon are dependent upon sufficient quantities of water to meet their spawning, rearing, incubation, overwintering, and migration habitat requirements. This project will benefit salmon fisheries, salmon fishermen, and communities throughout SEAK by legally reserving water needed to sustain salmon habitat and production.
