Shasta, Scott and Klamath River Collaborative Management

These funds were used to participate in flow management and restoration identification studies in the Scott and Shasta Rivers, as well as Klamath River water management. Fish populations from both of these basins are in perilous condition, especially two of three coho cohorts that return to these basins. The funds were primarily used to fund a report investigating the historic run size of Chinook salmon in the Scott River basin. This information is important when setting realistic restoration goals for present-day restoration efforts for Chinook Salmon. PCSRF Goals, Objectives, and Priorities addressed: This project fulfilled several of the goals and objectives of the PCSRF including improving the status of ESA-listed coho salmon and ensuring the overall sustainability of naturally-spawning pacific salmon and steelhead.

The purpose of the project is for the Yurok Tribe to participate in the co-management of the Shasta and Scott Rivers, which are experiencing drastically lowered flows due to irrigation water withdrawals. The goal of the project is to enable coordinated water management within these basins to aid in the restoration of salmonids in general. The benefit to salmon is that increased flows provide for increased productivity, resiliency and abundance of salmonid species important to the Yurok Tribe and other parties.
