Description

Western Oregon Stream Restoration Program (WOSRP) biologists provided local watershed councils and landowners with initial assessments of limiting factors for potential project sites, and information about how potential projects fit within basin priorities for restoration. For the purpose of recruiting landowners and establishing subsequent habitat improvement measures, assessments were done to evaluate the substrate, stream morphology, available wood, pool width and depth, flood plain connectivity, riparian condition, temperature, accessibility for equipment and other factors. PCSRF FFY 2010 Funds were used to initiate the project. PCSRF FFY 2012 Funds were only expended on project costs incurred during the FFY 2012 PCSRF award period.

Project Benefit

The habitat restoration projects address the site specific limiting factors, and are incorporated into grant proposals for funding. The techniques used to place large wood and boulders for instream structures increases stream channel habitat complexity, and increases floodplain connectivity, which provides winter refuge habitat for listed species.

The restoration of habitat will be part of the implementation of the Upper Willamette River Conservation And Recovery Plan For Chinook Salmon And Steelhead (ODFW and NOAA, 2011)
