Description
This program directly supported agency staff to implement conservation and recovery plans within Oregon.
Coastal Implementation. The Oregon Coast Coho Conservation Plan Implementation Team was formed in January 2013 and draft work products (project prioritization and 3YIS) were started. In March 2013 an internal ODFW workshop for staff involved in coastal habitat restoration efforts was convened by the Implementation Coordinator to coordinate policy, science, monitoring, and on-the-ground restoration project implementation. A systematic process to develop habitat goals and priorities, consistent with both the Oregon Coast Coho Conservation Plan and a Coastal Multi-Species Conservation and Management Plan (which is under development for all other anadromous salmonids), which will feed the Coastal 3YIS was also started with ODFW staff, Watershed Councils, and other local implementers. Extensive coordination with NMFS on the development of their Oregon Coast Coho Recovery Plan took place in both 2012 and 2013.
Project Benefit
The goal of this project is to successfully implement the Coastal coho conservation plan. In order to do this, a coordinator with sole responsibility for plan implementation is required, given the scope of the plan and the likelihood that the level of attention needed for successful implementation of it would not be able to be provided by adding responsibilities to existing staff with full workloads. The goal of the plan is to provide a roadmap of actions for delisting the species addressed from the federal ESA list, and improve and maintain healthy populations of these native fish for the social, economic, and natural benefit of current and future Oregonians.

Description and scope of the Recovery Plan implemented | |
The plan being implemented is for the entire Coastal coho ESU. The plan calls for hatchery and harvest actions (which have been largely implemented), and habitat restoration actions (which are on-going but not completed). Implementation of these actions across the range of the ESU requires significant coordination with numerous entities and individuals.
