Description

Field-based surveys of adult spawners were conducted. Two years of field surveys were completed in portions of the SONCC management area of Oregon for coho, Chinook, and steelhead. These data continue to add to our status and trend information for the species addressed, as well as allow informed harvest management decisions.

Project Benefit

This project will function to implement ODFW’s Oregon Plan Monitoring Program, which provides data on the status and trends in anadromous fish populations and their habitats. Information and analysis provided by the monitoring program will be essential to the management and recovery of salmonid populations. The data are critical for evaluating population status and are used directly to target restoration priorities and actions. The Oregon Plan Monitoring Program continues a long term commitment to status and trend monitoring of adult and juvenile fish abundance and distribution and stream habitat and riparian conditions. The monitoring data will provide information about abundance, productivity, survival, distribution, and viability of salmon and steelhead in support of conservation and recovery planning and implementation.

          Description of monitoring
Between November 1, 2011 and January 31, 2012 spawning ground surveys were completed approximately very 7 - 10 days in Northern Coastal Strata watersheds of SONCC ESU. Surveys were completed in Euchre (2.0 miles), lower Rogue (7.19 miles), Hunter (2.53 miles), Pistol (2.16 miles), Chetco (6.47 miles), Winchuck (2.66 miles).
