Description

Field-based trapping of adult and juvenile coho (primarily) and steelhead were conducted. Two years of field work was completed in the Coastal management area of Oregon at 7 life cycle monitoring sites and 5 smolt outmigrant monitoring sites. These data continue to add to our status and trend information for the species addressed, as well as allow informed harvest management decisions.

Project Benefit

This project functions to implement ODFW’s Oregon Plan Monitoring Program, which provides data on the status and trends in anadromous fish populations and their habitats. Information and analysis provided by the monitoring program are essential to the management and recovery of salmonid populations. The data are critical for evaluating general status. The Oregon Plan Monitoring Program continues a long term commitment to status and trend monitoring of adult and juvenile fish abundance and distribution and stream habitat and riparian conditions. The monitoring data provides information about abundance, productivity, survival, distribution, diversity, and viability of salmon and steelhead in support of conservation and recovery planning and implementation.

          Description of monitoring
This project collects adults and juveniles with various types of traps within specific tributaries. Adults are identified to species, sexed, measured and counted. Juveniles are identified to species, weighed measured and counted. Coho are the primary targets for these surveys, but information for Chinook, steelhead, and chum will also be collected.
