Description    


During the project duration, 1134 miscellaneous streamflow measurements for instream rights were conducted statewide. Eighty-four streamflow gaging stations were also operated at instream water right locations during this period. Approximately 2100 water use reports were submitted by users of surface water rights during the study period. Monitoring of ground water included regular measurements at 1079 wells statewide.

Project Benefit    


Monitoring data will contribute to the ability to determine the effectiveness of watershed restoration and salmon recovery efforts. Monitoring data will also be coordinated as part of a comprehensive monitoring program, the Oregon Plan Monitoring Strategy.

          Description of monitoring
          GIS coverage contains 310 well locations where OWRD collects water level data. Many of these wells have long term water level records and are measured up to four times per year as part of our state observation well net. Others are observation wells established for various Ground Water Investigations. Hydrographs for all of the wells in the GIS coverage are available on the OWRD web site at: http://www.wrd.state.or.us/groundwater/well_data.shtml. As surface water supplies have become more fully allocated across Oregon, ground water is becoming an increasingly important source for meeting new water needs. For this reason, it is becoming increasingly important that OWRD consider the long-term and cumulative effects of new ground water uses on surface water. To do so, OWRD must have sufficient data to effectively consider the effects of ground water use on streams.

          Description of monitoring
          Under Oregon statute, all government entities are required to report their water use to OWRD annually. This GIS layer shows locations of municipal water rights with this requirement to report to OWRD. This water use data is available at the OWRD web page at http://stamp.wrd.state.or.us/apps/wr/wateruse/wu_report.php. This water use data is key to water conservation and management planning and implentation by municipalies.
