Description

These PCSRF funds were used to fund three positions (3.0 FTE) and their associated services and supplies. All three of these positions provided the technical and financial assistance needed by water users throughout the state to install appropriate fish screening and passage facilities required to restore and protect migrating salmonids.

Project Benefit

The benefit of this project is the accelerated installation of high quality fish passage and screening facilities throughout the state. This project provides the technical assistance that allows landowners, municipalities, irrigation districts and hydroelectric facilities to make use of our other construction funds to implement on a voluntary basis the construction of fish passage and screening facilities. ODFW expects to coordinate and fund the construction of 300 fish screening facilities in the next biennium. The construction of these facilities minimizes the entrainment of juvenile out migrating salmon into irrigation diversion ditches and pumps; municipal water diversions and industrial diversion pumps. ODFW expects to coordinate and fund the construction of 70 fish passage facilities in the next biennium. These facilities will provide upstream passage for adult salmon returning to spawn and juvenile salmon attempting to access upstream habitats over artificial barriers.
