Description

The IMST project funded two broad areas of work. 1) Review Projects: The Independent Multidisciplinary Science Team (IMST) reviewed ongoing or proposed programs and activities related the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds (Oregon Plan). 2) Conducted independent projects dealing with the scientific basis for management of resources and settings relative to the Oregon Plan. The IMST conducted regular public meetings at various locations in Oregon, and attended or conducted technical workshops to either support a project under development or to assist the work of an agency under the Oregon Plan. The IMST actively maintained a web site as its primary means to distribute information to the public and to make its reports and reviews available to state agencies and the public. The IMST also maintained an on-line searchable scientific database for use by Oregon Plan partners.

Project Benefit

The work of the IMST is expected to help guide the state through technical issues regarding salmonid recovery and to provide the state and its agencies and independent assesment of current and proposed management policies.

A report evaluating the technical basis for 2001 federal biological assessments biological opinions concerning management of fish species in the Klamath Basin. Recommendations made to State of Oregon, ODFW, Oregon Water Resources Department; Recommendations were made to state of Oregon natural resource agencies, included consequences to salmonids; Technical workshop on research and needs for Oregon’s new Hatchery Research center.
